What are Vocational Awards?
Every year, the West U Rotary Club recognizes individuals or businesses who have contributed to our local community (Houston) in a way that is beyond just business or a day of work.  We currently have four awards.

Community Service Award
An award that recognizes an individual in the community for his/her service, not necessarily associated with a vocation. This award was added a few years ago as a way of recognizing people who make a great contribution as a volunteer.

Vocational Service Award / Non Rotarian

Candidate is not a member of the club who uses his/her profession as an avenue of service, either to the community or beyond.  Past recipients have included owners of restaurant chains who support community activities such as Little League and a professor at Rice University who was the founding director of the Rice Alliance for Technology & Entrepreneurship which has fostered the commercialization of technologies from Rice and brought new business and recognition to the community.

Vocational Service Award / Education
An educator who makes an exceptional impact on students, either as a classroom teacher or an administrator.  Award winner will receive a stipend for their respective institution.

Vocational Service Award / Rotarian
A member of our Rotary club who uses his/her profession as an avenue of service.   Examples include a school principal who leads an exemplary school, travel agents who use their business to serve Rotary, a doctor who has provided medical services, a CPA who donates his services, and a geologist who has used technical expertise on service projects such as water and sanitation.
