Judge Kristen Brauchle Hawkins was elected judge of the 11 th District
Court in 2016. She is the 28 th judge and first woman to preside over the
11 th Court. In 2019, Judge Hawkins was appointed to chair the Board of
District Judges Jury Committee. As Jury Committee Chair, she has been
instrumental in ensuring that jury trials and court proceedings continue
during the COVD-19 pandemic.
Judge Hawkins grew up in Houston, and attended Alief Hastings High
School. She received her B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin and
her law degree from South Texas College of Law Houston.
Judge Hawkins is active in numerous professional organizations. She
has served in various leadership capacities for the Litigation and the Law Practice Management
sections of the Houston Bar Association.
Judge Hawkins is a member of the Texas Lyceum, Class 2018; American Leadership Forum
Class XLVII; Leadership Houston Class XXXVI; and Center for Houston’s Future Fall 2015
Leadership Class. She also serves on board for the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship Houston-
Galveston.
