I have been reaching out to several folks I know who are in the medical field across the country, asking about their experiences, and I have noticed a few themes:
  • Healthcare workers are under high stress:  This is due to a high volume of very sick patients and a waning supply of PPE, among other issues
  • Outside of the hospitals, healthcare workers are isolated:  In many instances, folks are social distancing from their families or have sent their families away so that they do not risk possibly infecting them
  • Personal Care:  Our healthcare workers are unable to get access to healthy food and supplies due to long shifts, closed cafeterias, and restricted shopping hours
I would like to work with our Rotary to identify ways in which to support our medical community and let them know that we appreciate the hard work that they are doing as well as the sacrifices they are making.  I would also like to coordinate with local businesses that are also struggling to see if there are some ways in which we can create some synergies that could help support our medical community as well as the business community.

The first and most important step is to understand the needs within our local Houston Medical Community.  To that end, I was wondering if there were any Rotarians within our club or district who could help me connect with local medical professionals?  In order to effectively identify opportunities to help, we need to understand what is actually needed.

I appreciate your help.  Please let me know if you would like me to provide more information.

Sincerely,
Bridgette
