West U Rotary Happenings for the week ending October 17, 2015 ….

Howdy all! We enjoyed our 2nd week at Paul’s Kitchen. For several club members and guests, it was their first time. We continue to receive positive feedback. I promise, we will have more crispy bacon this week.

This week is a special week for Rotarians around the world. October 23rd is the 3rd annual World Polio Day. Join Rotary and UNICEF for a LiveStream event at 6:30 EST at www.endpolio.org. Our own polio experts – Terry Ziegler and Fritz Beich will provide an interesting presentation and overview about Polio and how close we truly are to ending this terrible world disease. What are Rotary and other organizations doing in these next critical months? Let’s make this final push to end Polio in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

October is a busy volunteer month for us. This weekend several of our club members participated in the Women’s Home interviews. The ladies and all club members always find this event very rewarding for all.  We also had 6 members attend the Foundation Seminar on Saturday and several others attended the book sorting. More than 30 Interact students from at least 3 different high schools assisted with the book sorting. It has been a very productive week for our club and our District.
There are several other volunteer and social opportunities this month:
  • Oct 21st – Monthly Social – An Evening toast with Howard Hughes. Come join us for a happy hour and dinner at Hughes Hangar.

  • Oct 22nd – Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) Outbound meeting to discuss RYE opportunities. Do you know a student who would like to the opportunity to enjoy one of the most rewarding and memorable experiences of their lives? Join us at the West U Community Services Center and learn about these life changing opportunities.

  • Oct 24th – Fright Night sponsored by Xavier Educational Academy.  There are volunteer opportunities on the 23rd for set up or the 25th to take down. Let’s help one of our Interact clubs make this a successful fundraiser.

We have a busy October with lots of service and social opportunities. We look forward to seeing all our members and guests. Have a great week!

Peace!
