Howdy everyone! Happy New Year to everyone - a time for new beginnings and opportunities, a time to continue with and improve upon the things that are important in your life and a time to eliminate those items that need to be transferred to the history pages. May 2016 be a memorable year for all. Let’s hope 2016 is the year of the last polio case.

This week, we are honored to host a very special guest. Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson will provide us an overview of the Human Trafficking problem in Houston and what the city and county are doing with the “First Chance” program.

This past week, the Rotary District 5890 Disaster Aid trailer was deployed to the northeast Texas area to assist in the clean up after the recent severe tornadoes. West U Rotary and Cypress Fairbanks Rotary Clubs are proud partner sponsors of the Disaster Aid trailer. The trailer was funded in part through our District Grants. Wayne Beaumier from the Cy-Fair club drove the trailer to the effected communities to assist with the clean-up. Thank you Wayne for your assistance to these communities. If you would like to make a donation to support the trailer for future deployments, please go to www.disasteraidusa.com.

  • January 14th – A special tribute to some special Rotarians

We also announced that two young ladies (who happen to be best friends) will be traveling outbound next year as part of Rotary’s Youth Exchange (RYE) program. Dorothy Nugent will spend next year in Argentina and Emma Reagan will be going to Bolivia. Congratulations ladies and thanks to John Thornton, Judith Snively and the other club members for your assistance and your enthusiasm to support our youth programs.

Words of “wisdom” to think about this week:
  • Okay, what is the speed of dark?
  • Only in America do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions, while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.
Have a great week.
Peace!
