West U Rotary Happenings for the week of March 6, 2016 ….

This week in history has some interesting events:
  • 140 years ago, Alexander Graham Bell patents the telephone
  • 117 years ago Bayer patents aspirin
  • 113 years go Lawrence Welk was born
  • 66 years ago the VW bug went into production
  • 10 years ago George Burns passes away at age 100
  • Nothing exciting happened this week in Rotary
Last week our guest was Mary Green, Director of the Hay Center, showed how they are empowering foster youth to become successful and productive adults.  It is very interesting to learn the dynamics regarding foster families and the foster youth. The Hay Center is working to improve the lives of these youth by preparing them life after Foster families.

This week, we have a very special guest with a very special presentation. Have you ever heard of Camino de Santiago? Since the 9th century, individuals have participated in this annual 500 mile Pilgrimage. This week our guest is Sally McCandless – better half of Stan. Come on out and hear her amazing story of her trek on the Camino de Santiago. We are certain to hear an amazing story about an amazing journey.

We have several events and activities coming up in the next few weeks. Here is a brief list of the upcoming activities:
  • It is baseball season and with baseball comes the Challenger League dugout duties. Games are April 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30 and May 7th. Come join us in the dugout or in the stands to cheer the kids on.

Words of “wisdom” to think about this week:
  • Two silkworms participated in a race. They ended in a tie.
  • What do you get when you cross a vampire with a snowman? … Frostbite.
On that note, enjoy the weather and have a great week. Peace!
