ROTARY CLUB OF
WEST U (HOUSTON)

2022-2023 28th Year

John Thornton and Youth Exchange Student, Emeline, from Belgium.

Hello West U Rotarians and Guests,

Hope everyone is having a nice rainy weekend.  We had a great turnout at our social this past Thursday at the Kirby Ice House.   Thank you, Irene Sadkowski, for organizing.  It went perfectly.   Socials are a great way to get to know your members better, so put February 23rd on your calendar.

The Super Bowl party will be on Sunday, February 12th.  Irene will be communicating all the specifics next week.

Our next Second Servings Popup service project will be on Monday, February 13th at the Law Harrington low-income retirement home, 2222 Cleburne Street from 1045am-1245pm.  I really think you'll enjoy doing this.
To sign up, please click on this link and follow the instructions.  If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

I will miss everyone this Thursday as I will be in Belize for our international home building project.  This is led by Jack Wallace and we have 8 or so members that are going.  It is definitely eye opening, plus a lot of fun.  I may try to zoom in if possible.  We leave this Wednesday but will be back for the February 9th meeting.

Essi will be leading the meeting this week.

Thanks.

Thanks.

February Book Exchange
It's time for the next West U Rotary Book Exchange!
Please bring a book or two and come a few minutes early or stay a few minutes after the February 2 meeting to pick up a book or two to read.  "The more you read, the more you will learn.  The more you learn, the farther you will go."

Thanks, Terry Z

Improving your travel and vacation photos

Douglas Burns will be joining to talk about improving your travel/vacation photos; a photographer's 15 top tips

Douglas Burns fell in love with photography at an early age pouring though the photos in National Geographic Magazine. However it was in college where the photo bug really bit him. Since then he has traveled the world seeking photographic opportunities both professionally and personally. He has worked as a Director of Photography on projects with National Geographic TV documentaries, ESPN, TV personality Dr Phil, basketball player Yao Ming, former boxing champion and TV pitchman George Forman, major league baseball player Craig Biggio, and many others. He is fascinated with light in its various forms and how it shapes the world we see. Light can transform a scene, create a mood, or evoke a memory.
