Giving back through our exchange program has been truly inspiring. What a meaningful way to broaden our horizons—learning about different cultures and fostering greater understanding in our world. Matilda’s presentation was a wonderful reflection of all she has gained over the past year, and now, we eagerly anticipate Emily’s journey to Bordeaux, France.
This past week also brought more opportunities to give. Our blood drive reminded us how a simple act—just a few minutes of our time—can save lives. A special thank you to Ralph Cox for his unwavering commitment to this cause.
In addition, our participation in the Second Servings pop-up grocery event at the Houston Texans YMCA was deeply moving. Seeing so many families grateful for the gift of food made us pause and appreciate something we often take for granted.
Please remember, there will be no in-person meeting this week. Instead, we’ll gather for our club social at Rossa Room Speakeasy. If you haven’t been yet, you’re in for a treat! Looking forward to seeing you there—bring friends!
Bridgette Valeron, a member of our Rotary family, is embarking on a new journey and moving to Oklahoma! Thanks, Bridgette, for all your contributions and commitment to Rotary. You will always be in our hearts!!
Our club participated in a pop-up grocery event at Second Servings; we sorted and distributed 2 trucks of unused food from local grocers to over 100 families in need.
WURC member Kimberly got to represent Disaster Aid and Rotary at the annual Disaster Readiness and Resilience Clinic & Expo at GRB and connect with other members of VOAD, Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster. Patrick Lesley of the Pearland Rotary Club and Beau Butler of the Magnolia Rotary Club were great booth mates and some needed connections and introductions in furthering the work were made. Some of you may recall both our financial and muscle power support for Disaster Aid and VOAD post-Harvey, with muck and gut teams and grants coming from our Club and matched by District. One of the great things about our club, is that we understand that you "don't have to get ready when you stay ready."
