West University Update

Elected in 2021, Susan Sample is serving her third term as Mayor of the City of West University Place. She previously served two terms as Mayor from 2015 to 2019, and was on the City Council, serving as Mayor Pro Tem in both terms, before being elected for her first term as Mayor.  

Sample is a partner and tax controversy expert with Munsch Hardt Kopf & Harr, P.C. (Munsch Hardt), a Texas-based commercial law firm, where she guides clients through federal income and employment tax audits, IRS appeals, state tax audits and special projects.  Prior to joining Munsch Hardt, Sample served as a Senior Tax Advisor at Shell Oil Company, and prior to that, served as a Tax Controversy Counsel at Norton Rose Fulbright, where she represented corporations, partnerships, high-wealth individuals, and estates before the IRS. 

A product of the Houston Independent School District, Sample went on to do her undergraduate work at Rice University and earned her J.D. from The University of Texas at Austin School of Law, LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Houston, MPA from The University of Texas McCombs School of Business and B.A.s from both Rice University and the University of Houston. 

Sample spends a lot of time giving back to her profession and the community.  Professionally, she serves on the boards of the Houston CPA Society and the Texas Society of CPAs.  Outside of the office, Sample is an active member of her community and is serving her third term as Mayor of the City of West University Place.  Prior to being elected to City Council, Susan served on the board of directors of Friends of West U Parks and currently serves on the board of SPARK Park as vice president and is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Houston. 

Sample is married to Michael Larsson and has nine-year old twins.
